Businesses too often make the mistake of overlooking the importance of their logo. A logo is often the first thing that new potential customers see upon being introduced to your business and as such plays a large part in a first impression being formed. A business logo is often ubiquitous, finding spots on company’s websites, business cards, stationery and more.
This is the exact reason why maintaining an up-to-date logo is so important. If your business already has a logo, it is important to regularly ask one question: “does my current logo present the image that I need it to?” If your logo no longer makes you answer an enthusiastic “yes!” to this question, it’s time for a fresh new look.

Signs that it’s time to change your logo
- It is important that your logo works across and adapts to all forms of modern media. Can your logo be resized across and still look good? Does your logo look good in colour as well as black and white? Can it be simplified into an icon, tile or button?
- Does your logo represent your current business? Your logo shouldn’t be about where you started 20 years ago. It should be a reflection of where your business is today along with where you want to head to in the future.
- Your logo was a DIY job that you quickly put together so you had something to include on those business cards you never hand out. It may be time to let a professional step in. A very important business skill is knowing when you don’t have the skill to do something and being able to source the right skills to get the job done. If its been a long time since someone commented on your logo then it may be time for a refresh.
- Your logo is either bland and boring against your competition or so confusing that no one knows what to make of it. If this is your problem then its time simplify and stick to the basics. Keep your logo clean and concise and only use 2-3 colours. Try and avoid gradients and shadows as these start to look out-dated very quickly and some mediums may not render these well.
- You are personally attached to your logo so its amazing. Never forget you are running a business. It is definitely important that you feel pride and attachment to your business however, don’t be so overrun with pride in things like your logo, colour scheme, etc that you forget to keep it relatable to your customers. After all your customers are what keep your business alive.
